Normal Work Schedule: Normal hours will be negotiated using the standard schedule of M-F from 8-5 pm.

Job Summary: The Data Scientist I assists in data management and integration efforts across the university, state, and federal agencies. Develops processes to extract, transform, and load data into common data repositories. Coordinates creating new databases, performing database backups and restores, user maintenance, and ensuring database performance.


Additional Department Summary: Assists in data management and integration efforts across the university, state, and federal agencies, focusing on health-related and public-safety-related data. Develops processes to extract, transform, and load data into common repositories and conducts various data analyses, including statistical modeling, data visualization, and report generation.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of data science or conducting analyses experience; OR Master’s degree and some data science or analytics experience.


Skills and Knowledge: Experience working on federally funded academic or program grants. Knowledge of academic research, writing, and publishing. Skills at creating, managing, and using academic datasets. Knowledge of R, Python, SAS, or similar software package. Proficiency with SQL. Ability to conduct and write-up health analyses and provide interpretations. Ability to track and manage tasks well, including meeting deadlines. Ability to communicate professionally with stakeholders across written and spoken domains. Knowledge related to seeking and maintaining IRB ethical approval. Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships. A positive attitude and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in statistics/biostatistics, math, public health, operations management or another quantitative or health science related field. Proficiency with Power Bi or similar tools. Professional experience conducting analyses or working in data science.
