Job Summary: The Communications Specialist I writes and edits communications for a department, college, and/or division under general supervision. Develops and implements plans, activities, and tactics to support the goals of assigned areas. Coordinates the production of materials and resources through a variety of platforms, including digital and physical mediums.
Additional Department Summary: Manages internal and external communications in support of the departmental mission.
Promotes the department to the international art community, local and state community groups, arts organizations, and the broader news media through press releases, the Art Roundup, and stories posted on our website and social media. Maintains the department's social media accounts. Produces brochures for the department's undergraduate and graduate programs. Produces in-house promotional materials. Produces (writes copy, solicits information, conducts interviews, and designs) the department's newsletters. Maintains departmental archives, databases, and other media related resources. Integrates communication strategy and activities with other university operations.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work with a variety of programs typical in the communications field such as Word, Adobe Creative Suite, and Excel, among others.
Preferred Qualifications: Some experience with visual communications and/or graphic design required. Finalists may be asked to provide writing samples and/or a portfolio of design work. Strong writing, marketing, and design skills.
