Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; some evening/weekend hours as needed


Job Summary: The Nutritionist develops and coordinates optimal nutritional services for individuals and groups. Provides individual and group nutrition counseling and education.


Additional Department Summary: Provides medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for individuals and nutritional education for groups. Develop and implements group nutrition education programs for pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations of the greater West Alabama community who are served by the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) and University Medical Center (UMC). May also assist with planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for undergraduate students and other CCHS learners.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree or higher in Nutrition and one (1) year of experience providing nutrition services in a clinical healthcare setting. Registered Dietician in the State of Alabama in good standing OR the ability to obtain a license within six (6) months of employment. Current/valid registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Skills in developing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, providers, patients, and regulators. Skills in organizing work to achieve clinic goals and objectives. Proficient in the use of personal computers, standard application software, and electronic health record systems. Excellent organizational and effective written and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to communicate with respect and sensitivity. Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records. Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Skills in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.


Preferred Qualifications: Certified Eating Disorders Registered Dietitian (CEDRD) credentialing through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals preferred. Experience/specialization in eating disorders preferred.
